a Dave Cavell

Campaign Update

Friends, neighbors, and loyal supporters of the campaign,

It is with a heavy heart that I’m reaching out to share that, as of today, I am officially suspending my campaign for Congress.

First and foremost, I want to express my unending gratitude to my supporters who poured their hearts and passion into this campaign. From Fall River to Hopkinton, Attleboro to Easton, and everywhere in between, the fierce, determined, and impassioned coalition we built truly reached everyone, everywhere.

This wasn’t my campaign. This was your campaign. And running this campaign with all of you has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Coming to the decision to drop out was heartbreaking. But the last few weeks have made one thing abundantly clear —  not every candidate is fit to serve as the 4th District’s next Congressperson. The people of the 4th District — especially those that belong to marginalized communities — deserve a Representative they can trust. A Representative that, time and time again, will fight for justice and land on the right side of history.

At least one candidate has proven that he is not that person.

So, as painful as it is to suspend my campaign for Congress, this is a moment when all of us must put the best interests of the country before personal politics. Including me. So I’m suspending my campaign for the same reasons I started it: to fight for the people of the 4th District.

And that’s why I am endorsing my friend, Jesse Mermell, for Congress.

A progressive champion and undying advocate for the communities who need it most, Jesse understands that need for intersectional, progressive policies to tackle our nation’s current crises.

She is ready to meet the moment.

So friends, even though I will not serve as the 4th District’s next Congressperson, this is not the end — it’s only the beginning.

Together we created a movement. A movement that reached everyone, everywhere. A movement that committed to the fight for justice and the pursuit for a more equitable, just future. And a movement that paused, every Friday at 7:00 PM, to learn a new recipe or two on Dinner with Dave and Kate.

So, again, although we are heartbroken today after a year of so much work and good energy, it’s only the beginning. Because this movement  — our movement — will live on.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a part of this journey with me.

Best,
Dave
