MILFORD, MA — The most-watched race of the 2020 Massachusetts election is coming to the area.
At the end of July, the nine candidates seeking to replace U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-4, will debate in an event that will be televised by Milford TV. The event is a co-production of the Democratic committees of Milford, Bellingham, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Medway, Milford and Norfolk.
The nine people running for Kennedy’s seat include: Newton Councilors Jake Auchincloss and Becky Grossman; former Barack Obama staffer Dave Cavell; City Year founder Alan Khazei; Brand New Congress candidate Ihssane Leckey; epidemiologist Natalia Linos; former Brookline Select Board member Jesse Mermell; attorney Ben Sigel; and tech entrepreneur Chris Zannetos.
Kennedy is trying to unseat incumbent Democrat U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, and the two will face off in the Sept. 1 Democratic primary. The winner will advance to an almost assured victory against the Republican candidate in the November general election.
The 4th Congressional District runs from Hopkinton southeast to Fall River, and a portion of it extends from Medway northeast to Brookline and Newton.
